Biography

On the 1910 Census, 23-year-old Wilbur is living with his parents in Waterbury, CT, and he is employed as a toolmaker in a brass factory.

Wilbur married Grace Evelyn May Garlick on 11 Jun 1912 in Stratford, CT. The couple never had any children, and Grace developed cancer in the 1940's. They spend all their savings on ever-more-desperate attempts at a cure, but sadly Grace died 30 Dec 1946.

On the 1920 Census, Wilbur and Grace are renting a home on Holmes Ave in Darien CT. He is a foreman in a factory.

1930 and 1940 Census records lists Wilbur as a Foreman in lock manufacturing (the Yale & Towne Mfg Co. on his WW2 Draft Card) and Grace is presumably keeping house at the home they own at 62 Culloden Road, Stamford, CT. Wilbur finished the 8th grade, and Grace has two years of high school.

After Grace's death, Wilbur pursued a much younger woman who worked in the office at his company, Lydia Mary Crissey. Lydia put him off but eventually gave in and suggested they go for a hike together. Lydia was extremely athletic, and had found a convenient way to hold suitors at arm's length was to literally leave them behind on a hilly trail. She met her match in Wilbur, for he liked nothing more than a hike. The couple was married on 12 Jul 1947, and the couple moved to Florida in 1953 (Wilbur would have been 70 at that point). Lydia and Wilbur had a daughter Mary on 3 Nov 1949.

Wilbur died in Polk County, FL 4 Aug 1970.
