James Sammons II was born in 1695, probably in Isle of Wight County, VA.
He was the son of James Sammons I and possibly Mary Simons.
James married Phyllis Mason?
Some say she was Phyllis Ivey, BUT James' will settlement indicates that Phyllis married their neighbor Henry Ivey after James died and she became Phyllis Ivey. --
On 20 August 1767 David Mason, executor of James Sammons' will, deeded land to James Sammons Jr. in which “Phillis Ivey mother of the sd James Sammons hath dower”. [1]
So Phyllis married Henry Ivey between 1765 and 1767.
Another source (on ancestry) has Phyllis's maiden name as Mason.
James and Phyllis named a daughter Avey, so she was either named after their neighbor or perhaps Phyllis was an Ivey descendant (mother/grandmother) and she married a relative (cousin?) after James died.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
I believe that James II SAMMONS is the maternal 8th great grandfather of my grandchildren, Glen and Lilly.
