James Sample was born in Yorkshire, England.

James was born 25 December 1794 in Kirkbymoorside, Yorkshire, England. His parents were William Sample and Ann Calvert. ^[1]

He married Mary Harbron in 1827. ^[2] They had the following children: William, James, John, Ann. Mary. Jane, and Frances Hannah. ^{[3] [4]}

James was a shoemaker and was retired by 1861. ^[5] He passed away at the age of 73 in 1868. His death was registered in Helmsley, Yorkshire. ^[6]

GRO records for his two youngest children show mother's maiden name as "Harbron".
