Biography

Alice Samways was born in 1517 to Robert Samways of Winterborne St Martin. (otherwise known as Martinstown), Dorset and his wife Agnes, daughter of John Prowte of Litton, Dorset. ^{[1] [2]} The couple had several children.

She died in 1595 and was buried at Steeple,Dorset on 24th October 1595.The clerk recorded that she was 'a widow aged about 70 - in the 35th year of widowhood a pious chaste woman who carried out all kinds of good and charitable works for the relief of the poor and sick ^{[3] [4]}
