Elias Ben Yahuda Sanders was born on the 14th September 1904 in Świętokrzyskie Slopnice, Galicia, Austro-Hungarian Empire (currently Poland).[1] He was the son of Leon Sanders[2] and Jetti Horn.
He immigrated to the United States from Galicia in 1921 when he was 16 years old. [Passenger List States 17.] He traveled alone and had only $25.[1]
Eliasz Gitman immigrated on 5 June 1921 in Ellis Island, New York City, New York; he sailed from Antwerp aboard the ship "Lapland".[3]
Elias applied for naturalization in 1923 in New York.[4] On 14 Feb 1928 he was admitted as a citizen of the United States of America.[1]
In 1940, Eli (age 36), Dorothy (27) and their five year old son lived in Brooklyn, New York City, New York; Eli worked as wholesale salesman.[5]
He died on the 4th August of 1962 and is buried in Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Queens, New York.[6]
