Jacoba Cornelia Sandifort is born 04-02-1904 at the house numbered 67 LL in the Haarlemmermeer, The Netherlands, as daughter of Willem Frederik Sandifort, 34 years old, "scheepsjager" (a person walking along canals to pull ships by their own power or with a horse) and of Sandrina Maria Goulooze.[1]
She marries in 1924 in Aalsmeer with the 29 years old Leendert Cornelis de Ronde.[2]
jacoba passed away 09-10-1984 in Kampen at the age of 80 years. Ze is resting at the Algemene Begraafplaats, Kampen "De Zandberg", Rondeweg 7, IJsselmuiden. [3]
The few times I met Aunt Ko (Tante Ko, abbreviation of her name Jacoba) and I thought also Uncle Leen (Ome Leen, abbreviation of his name Leendert) I was not even 10 years old I think, but I know they were then bargees (binnenschippers). I think they transported mostly gravel and sand. I wish I had a photo of that ship!
I learned, as I was looking for sources for Jacoba and Leendert, I never was able to meet Uncle Leen as he passed away in 1951. Wondering now, with whom Jacoba after 1951 was sailing.
My grandparents who lived in Aalsmeer at the canal around the Haarlemmermeer, were now and then visited by Aunt Ko and Uncle Leen with their ship, as they had to deliver goods in the neighbourhood. I still see, in my mind, the ship docked at the jetty in front of the house of my grandfather and grandmother.
I also remember that the city Kampen was their hometown and I visited them with my mother once. But in my memories we visited them on their ship, not in a house. I think I was about 5 or 6 years of age.
I am not sure but I am writing these memories now as I just was thinking of them and trying to remember the name of the ship........
