John Sands was born about 1728 and baptized with 6 of his brothers & sisters on 13 April 1729 in Ipswich, Massachusetts Bay Province, New England. He was the last child in the list of 7, indicating he was probably the youngest at that time. He was the son of James Sands (1696-bef.1747) and his wife, Emma (Jepson) Sands (1695-1744). [1]
Shortly after this collective baptism, James & Emma Sands moved their family to York County, Maine District, at that time part of Massachusetts Bay Province. John Sands grew up mainly on the coast of Maine. There he met and married Mary McLucas, b: 9 December 1741 in York County, Maine District, Massachusetts Bay.[2]
The couple were married on 12 December 1776 in Buxton, York, Maine District, Massachusetts, USA. [3] This was, of course, right at the beginning of the American Revolution.
John & Mary (McLucas) Sands had 2 known children:
John Sands Jr., b: 24 Dec. 1783 in Buxton, York, Maine
Sarah "Sally" Sands, b: ca. 1784 in York Co., Maine
Sally Sands married John Snow, b: 1782 in Maine and lived until 1870. [4]
The exact death date and place for John Sands is not known. A Maine birth record from 1808 mentions him as the paternal grandfather of Betsey Sands, daughter of his son, John Sands, Jr. This might imply he was still living at that time but it's not certain. [5]

Note: The family tree on FamilySearch attributes this marriage to a John Sands, b: 1750, who was the nephew of "this" John Sands. But as wife Mary was definitely born in 1741, it's unlikely her husband was 9 years younger.
