Biography

William Savage was the son of Thomas Savage and Mary Elliott Butler.

Plantation

When William's mother died he inherited the plantation known as Sterling Bluff, in St. Philip Parish, Chatham Co, GA.^[1]

When William's brother Benjamin died, William became his executor.^[2] William ended up with his brother's plantation, Silk Hope.

In 1834 William sold Sterling Bluff Plantation.^[3][4]

Census

In 1830 William Savage has a census listing in Bryan Co, GA. 1 white male (the overseer?), age 50-60.^[5] Slaves enumerated with him as follows:^[6]

• 10 males under age 10
• 15 males ages 10-24
• 33 males ages 24-36
• 8 males ages 36-55 - possibly Samuel Benedict
• 10 males ages 55-100
• 10 females under age 10
• 15 females ages 10-24
• 32 females ages 24-36
• 7 females ages 36-55

Death

William Butler Savage died in 1838. His executors sold his property, Silk Hope Plantation, in Bryan Co, GA.^[7]
