Biography
Carl Saylor has German Roots.
Carl Saylor was a Pennsylvanian.
Carl, son of John Henry Saylor and Agnes Rebecca Ritz, was born 9 May 1904 in York County, Pennsylvania.[1] Six-year-old Carl E. lived in 1910 on the farm in Windsor Township, York County, rented by hiss parents John H. (age 29, farmhand) and Agnes R. Saylor (26, tobacco stripper; mother of five, four living).[2] Although one of his brothers had been still-born, his siblings Mervin Edward (9), Carrie Estella (7) and Virgil Delmar Saylor (1) resided with them.[2]
The family consisting of John H. (age 39, farmer on his own land), Agnes R. (37), Mervin E. (19, cigar maker), Carrie E. (17, cigar maker), Carl E. (15, cigar maker), Virgil D. (12) and Preston Elwood Saylor (10) remained in Windsor Township in 1920.[3] It is here in the cigar factory that Carl likely met his future bride.
On 11 November 1922 in York County, he married Mary "Helen" Marshall,[4] daughter of John Daniel Marshall and Anna Mary Warner.[5] They had at least five children, including:
Carl (25, buncher at cigar factory) and Helen (age 25, cigar roller) rented a home on Broad Street in Yoe, York County, for themselves and their two sons in 1930.[4] After 1935 the family rented a place on Water Street in Windsor, York County.[8] In 1940 the household included Carl (35, furniture factory woodworker), Helen (age 36, cigar maker) and their five children aged four to 14.[8] The record shows that Helen had finished her freshman year of high school, while Carl had completed eight years of formal education.[8]
Carl died 16 June 1980 in York County[9] and was buried there at Windsor Cemetery.[10]
