Biography

Mary Louise Schafer, daughter of Henry C. Schafer and Mary Melissa Barnhisel, was born on 30 March 1914 in Howard County, Indiana, United States.[1] Her father died the year after her birth. The family was enumerated during the 1920 census in Henry Township, Fulton County, Indiana.[2]

She was enumerated in her brother Garland's household with her sister during the 1930 census, living on East Rochester Street in Akron, Fulton County, Indiana.[3]

She married Garland Hines, son of Rector R. Hines and Murel Keever, on 11 October 1936 in Grant County, Indiana.[4] They had two known children.[5]

The family was enumerated during the 1940 census in Center Township, Marion, Grant County, Indiana.[6] In 1950 they lived in Anderson Township, Madison County, Indiana.[7]

At the time of her mother's death in 1969, Mary lived in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana.[8]

She was widowed in 1971.[1]

She married second Frank Alonzo VanSlyke.[9] She was widowed in 1990.[1]

At the time of her sister Lucille's death in 2008, Mary lived in Pendleton, Madison County, Indiana.[9]

Mary died at age 97 on 3 August 2011 at Rawlins House in Pendleton. She was buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson.[1][10][11]
