Biography

Gilbert was born in 1924 in Emma, Freedom Township, Lafayette County, Missouri. He was the son of Otto Schelp and Stella Stuerke.

In the 1930 census, Wilbert (age 6) was living with his parents Otto and Stella Schelp in Freedom, Lafayette, Missouri, United States. His father was a Farmer.[1] In the 1940 census, Welbert (age 16) was single and living with his parents in Freedom, Lafayette, Missouri. Wilbert had completed elementary school having completed 8th grade.[2]

Wilbert (age 18) registered for the World War II Draft on 30 June 1942 in Emma, Lafayette, Missouri, United States. He was employed on his father's farm.[3] Wilbert enlisted for military service on 8 April 1946 in Fort Levenworth, Kansas.[4] Wilbert was in the army served in the US Army and was discharge on 23 Apr 1947.[5]

Wilbert (age 25) married Evanell Stumpenhaus on 2 October 1949 in Higginsville, Lafayette, Missouri, United States.[6]

In the 1950 census, Wilbert (age 26), Farmer, was the married head of household living with his wife Evanell in Freedom, Lafayette, Missouri, United States.[7] Wilbert and Evanell had at least five children.

Wilbert died on 24 July 1989 in Missouri, United States.[8] His last residence was Emma, Lafayette, Missouri.[9] He was buried in Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery, Emma, Lafayette County, Missouri.[10]
