Biography

Sam was born about 1886[1] in what is now Austria (then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.[2]

It is not known when Sam emigrated to the United States, but he married Sara Deitel January 9, 1923 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States[3] and they had one child, Norman.[2]

Sam and Sara honeymooned in Bermuda, returning to their home at 203 Bay St in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States. They left Port Hamilton, Bermuda January 16, 1923 aboard the SS Fort St. George and arrived in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States January 18, 1923. Although Sam was a naturalized United States citizen at the time, Sara was not.[1]

In 1940 Sara, Sam, and their son, Norman, lived in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States.[2]

It is not known whether Sam and Sara were ever divorced or even legally separated, but in the early 1960's, they ceased living together. It was whispered among the family that Sara suffered physical abuse for many years prior to a "last straw" incident.[4]
