Mathias was born and bred in Hesse, Kassell, Germany about 1670, from which place he emigrated to the city of Strasburg, Germany. Mathias Slaymaker emigrated to this country about 1710, and he and his family settled on a tract of 1,000 acres, which he purchased from a company called the London Company and known as the "London Lands," situated in Strasburg Township, now Paradise Township, and built a log house near a spring not far from the present village of Williams town, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It is very likely he gave the name to Strasburg Township. He married Catherine Sciebell in Germany. They had five sons, Lawrence, Mathias, John, Henry and Daniel, and two daughters, Margaret and Barbara. Lawrence and Margaret were born in Germany. Mathias Slaymaker, as well as his sons, were noted for their gigantic stature and strength, which was of great advantage in those days, as the Indians were all around them. Mathias lived to an advanced age and died about 1762, and is buried in old Leacock burying ground, which has been the burying place of many of his descendants up to the present time.[1] Of these five sons and two daughters, Lawrence married Eve Pfoutz; Mathias married Barbara Smith; John married Elizabeth White; Henry married Faithful Richardson; Daniel married Agilis Young; Margaret married Michael Fickle; Barbara married Hieronimus Eckman.[2] Mathias Slaymaker left his property to his four sons, Mathias, John, Henry and Daniel, leaving his youngest son, Daniel, his executor, as his will, which is given in another place in full, will show.[3]

I believe the problem is that a Ferree and a Slaymaker married and for some reason the Slaymakers inserted themselves into the Ferree genealogy. I have a documented timeline for the Ferrees. I can prove that they lived in Germany before 1681 and did NOT flee from France in 1685 with the French troops chasing them from their home in France. Most of the speeches and books written about the Ferree family before 2000 are incorrect.
The Ferrees got their 2000 acres from the Swissers and NOT with Mathias in the 4000 acres as most have said. The Swissers and the Ferrees had their land in PA surveyed 10 Oct 1710. Where is the name of Mathias in the surveyor's book? Where is Mathias documented in 1710 in PA? The Ferrees are documented in PA.
I have seen where one of the Ferree descendants married into the Slaymaker family, but that was years after the Ferrees arrived in PA.
