Obituary [1]

William J. Schmitt, 74, of 316 S/ Main, a retired grocer who died at Mennonite Hospital in Bloomington at 1: 15 p.m., Monday, will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in St. Mary's Church in Henry. The Rev. Walter Bruening will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 9 tonight at McReynolds Funeral Home. Mr. Schmitt operated Schmitt's grocery store many years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Henry. Born in Henry on April 11, 1899, he was a son of George and Anna Schlosser Schmitt. He married Blanche Manners Nov 26, 1926, in Davenport, Iowa. Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Louis (Geraldine) DeFreitas of Peoria and Mrs. Paul (Marilyn) Kelley of Amherst, N.H.; one son William G. of Pekin; a sister, Mrs. Eva Ford of Henry; one brother, George of Sheffield, and five grandchildren. Two sisters preceded him in death.
