Herman was first found on record in the 1870 US Census for Kentucky living in Covington at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Barney and Frances Cassenbrock. Herman later moved to Cincinnati, Hamilton, Ohio, and was listed in the City Directory in 1874 and 1877.
Herman's death notice was listed in the Cincinnati Daily Gazette on 24 Apr 1877 and gives his age as 71.
