Nicholas S Schoonover was born on October 2, 1783, in Center, New Jersey, his father, Roedolfus (Adolphus) Schoonhoven (1741-1804) and his mother, Catherine Decker (1767-1805). He married Sarah Blue (1782-1855) in 1800 in New Jersey. He died on 11 May 1852 in Belpre, Washington, Ohio and was buried in Corner Cemetery, Corner, Washington County, Ohio.
