Auguste was born in 1836 in West Prussia. She was the daughter of Ludwig Schwandt and Caroline Zuch. She had a son by a man her family prohibited her from marrying. In 1893, with her son, his wife & their 5 children she arrived in Canada & travelled out to the Northwest Territories, where she lived the rest of her long life.. She passed away in 1920 in Saskatchewan.

The Julius Schwandt family, 8 persons including mother Auguste, 4 children and an infant, emigrated to Canada in the spring of 1893. Their immigrant ship was the Mongolian, out of Liverpool April 13 1893 and into Halifax 10 days later. Their debarkation onto the soil of the New World was the morning of April 24 1893, and they were destined to Winnipeg by the CPR. Their travel from West Prussia remains unknown.
