John Scott was born on July 7, 1843 in Yarrow, Selkirkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, son of John Scott (1803–1884) and Mary Broadwood (1805–1886).[1]

John (29) married Emma Maria Clarke (22) (born on July 21, 1850 in Centerville, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada; daughter of John Robert Clarke and Caroline Jean (DeZeng) Clarke) on November 6, 1872 in Howick, Huron County, Ontario.[2] Their children were:

In 1901, John (57) was living in Assiniboia (east/est), The Territories. [3]

John died on August 4, 1931 in Cupar, Saskatchewan, Canada, aged 88. He was buried in Cupar Cemetery, Cupar, Regina Census Division, Saskatchewan.[4]

John and Emma lived in a small cabin in the village of Listowel, Ontario (near Clifford, Ontario) when they married in 1872. In 1884 he applied for, and obtained, a Western Land Grant for property in Assiniboia East, NWT, and in 1902 he built a stone house on the homestead located near Cupar, Saskatchewan, Canada.
