The 1850 US Census records that Jonathan was born in Georgia, but all other census records lists his state of birth as being South Carolina.

The 1870 US Census lists Jonathan as living in Red Bluff (now Clio), Marlboro County, South Carolina with his mother Penny, who is 90 years old. Also living in the home is his sister Marina and a 38 year old woman, Polly and several children, Tom, Alex, John and Carhn Scott. Polly could be his daughter or neice and the children could be his grandchildren or great neices/nephews. No relationship to head of household is listed on this census record. All members of this family are listed a Mulatto.
The 1880 US Census shows 60 year old Jonathan living with his sister, Marina in Red Bluff, South Carolina. He is listed as being single. Also living in his household is a 70 year old servant named John Thompson. All occupants of this household are listed as Mulatto.
U.S., Selected Federal Census Non-Population Schedules, 1850-1880, Agricultural schedules, enumerated on August 12, 1850, August 20, 1860 and September 2, 1870 indicate that farming was Jonathan's occupation. Census records also record his occupation as a farmer.
Jonathan Scott died on September 2, 1870 in Marlboro County, South Carolina. He is interred at Beaver Dam Cemetery in McColl, Marlboro County, South Carolina, USA.
