Subject: sears family Dear Sir, I am conducting research on two of our busts in the Massachusetts State House by Philip Shelton Sears: Henry Cabot Lodge Sr. and his grandson Henry Cabot Lodge (Jr.). I am trying to learn if there was a family connection between the younger Lodge's wife, Emily Sears (daughter of Dr. Henry F. Sears) and the sculptor. Several long-time north shore residents have told me that they were related, but I have been unable to find exactly what the connection was. Since Philip Sears had a summer studio in Pride's Crossing, near where the Lodges lived for so many years, it would make so much sense that he would model heads of both men (that of HCL Sr. being posthumous). But it would be nice to confirm the family connection as well. Any information you might be willing to share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you sincerely for your time, Susan Greendyke Lachevre Art Collections Manager Massachusetts Art Commission State House, Room 1 Boston, MA 02133
