Mary Catherine Dowden

Mary Catherine Dowden, age 83, of Huntington, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 at Heritage Pointe in Warren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, 2978 West 1100 North, Huntington, with Pastor Diana Siegel officiating. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery in Huntington County.

Mary was born Oct. 5, 1930 in Huntington County, daughter of Floyd C. and Marie (Hack) Selle. She graduated from Clear Creek High School in 1948. Her first marriage was to Gerald Fowler on Sept. 5, 1948 at Bethesda United Brethren Church in Huntington County. He preceded her in death. She married Kenneth D. Dowden on April 22, 1962 in Huntington County.

Mary was a homemaker and worked as a bank teller at First National Bank from 1977 to 1986. She was a member of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, the Clear Creek Happy Homemakers Club, the Huntington County Historical Society, and the Huntington County Republican Women's Association. She served on the board for Cancer Services for Huntington County. She was a member of two square dance clubs and was an avid fan of both IU and Lady Viking Basketball. She was a Secret Fan for the Lady Vikings for several years. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren in sporting events and loved to read.

Mary is survived by her husband of 51 years, Kenneth D. Dowden of Huntington; three sons: Steven E. (Lynette) Dowden, Rick Dowden and DeWayne (Bonnie) Dowden; three daughters: Carole Blair, Joyce (Artie) Fryman and Debra Campbell (Jerry Stewart); one sister, Marjorie Miller; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Her parents; one daughter, Vicki Jo Chamberlain; one sister, Eloise Beal; two brothers-in-law: John Ernest Beal and Dean Miller and one son-in-law, Charles "Chuck" Campbell Jr., precede her in death.
