John was one of the first farmers in the McGuffey, Ohio area to grow apples, pears, peaches, grapes and berries. In addition, he grew grain on his farm on the north side of the great Scioto Marsh.
He married Rachael J. Nibarger in Hardin County, Ohio. They were the parents of eleven children:
James M. born 1851 and died on June 29, 1874
Elizabeth Jane was born in 1854. She married Frederick Shroll and she is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ada, Ohio
William Asa was born in 1856. He married Martha C. Christopher. They are also buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Ada.
Israel D. was born in 1858. He married Venora Hawk. They are buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay, Ohio
Anderson Ellsworth was born in 1861. he married Ida Ellen Powell
Argus Cyrus was born in 1863 and died in 1911
Francis Shadley March 2, 1866 - April 23, 1866
Arthur S. was born in 1867 and married Rhoda S. Smith
John Wilbur was born in 1870 and died in 1954. He did not marry
Laura E. was born in 1874 and married a Mr. Feister
