Alpheus Shahan
Alpheus Shahan was born August 19, 1853, and died December 8, 1917. He had gone to Tunnelton to bring the district superintendent, Dr. A. Moore, to the quarterly meeting held at Mt. Israel church near Fellowsville. He took Dr. Moore to his home, ate dinner, seemed to be in his usual health, and walked through the field with him to the church. Soon after his arrival at the church Mr. Shahan’s death occurred.
Mr. Shahan was born and raised in this community and will be a man missed in the church. He was a worker, one that could be relied upon to do his part. He became a member at the age of 13, and from that time his life was devoted to charitable and Christian work.
He was first married to Elizabeth Braham, September 24, 1874, and to this union one child was born, Susie, but a few minutes later his wife died. He was again married to Beedy Nestor, August 5, 1884, who lived but a short period after. On September 17, 1885, the third time he was united in marriage to Harriet Long, who remained his faithful companion. Three children were born to this union, Dessie DeMoss, Willie and Marion, all three living.
. Mr. Shahan has three brothers and one sister living. The funeral was held from his home church, the Rev. Wm. Gilmore officiating at the services. His neighbors upon every hand speak well of the deceased. He was a man of God. His place will ne hard to fill.
