Thomas was born in 1846. He was the son of Thomas Sharplin and Jane Tones.
When he was 12 years old, he emigrated from England to New Zealand with his parents and his 5 siblings on the Indiana sailing from London August 2nd 1858 - arrived Lyttelton November 23rd 1858.

Tragically Thomas passed away in 1878 at the age of 31 after falling from a tree:
