Biography

John was born at Garryhorn Farm, Maybole on 16th May 1864. He was the son of John Shaw and Agnes McFadzean. ^[1]

His grandfather, James McFadzean died in 1867 and Garryhorn fell to his father's care. In 1871 he was 5 years old lived at Garryhorn, Maybole with his parents and siblings James, Walter, Agnes, Jane and Mary , his uncle, James McFadzean and servants William Coughtrie, James Harrow, Elizabeth Faulds and Elizabeth McAlister. ^[2]

His mother died of leucocythemia (leukemia) in 1877. ^[3]

In 1881 John was 16 years old and lived at Garryhorn with his father, his siblings Walter, Agnes, Jane and Mary, his father's uncle, John Shaw and servants James McCulloch, John Devlin and Mary Craig. ^[4]

In 1890, John married Maggie Sutherland in Blythswood, Glasgow. ^[5]

In 1891 John was 27 years old and working as a draper in Glasgow. He lived at 34 Blantyre Street in Anderston, Glasgow with his wife Maggie. ^[6]

In 1901 John was 34 years old (37). He worked as draper and lived at 360 Dumbarton Road, Kelvin, Glasgow with his wife Maggie and children Maggie, Charles and Stuart. ^[7]

John passed away on 20th July 1953 in Lanark, Lanarkshire.^[8]
