Biography

When Ruth Florence Shaw was born on 29 May 1914, in Parke, Indiana, United States, her father, William Ared Shaw, was 26 and her mother, Jesse Dell Brown, was 18. She married Rev Norman Eugene Elder on 30 June 1933, in Putnam, Indiana, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. She lived in Greencastle, Greencastle Township, Putnam, Indiana, United States for about 5 years and Greencastle Township, Putnam, Indiana, United States in 1940. She died on 31 July 2005, in Vigo, Indiana, United States, at the age of 91, and was buried in Lodi, Liberty Township, Parke, Indiana, United States.

Ruth F. Spellman, 91, of Terre Haute died at 2:34 a.m. Sunday, July 31, 2005, in Union Hospital. She was a cook and waitress for both the Twelve Points Motel and Spelterville Inn. She was born May 29, 1914, in Parke County to Ared A. Shaw and Jessie Brown Shaw. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Elder Sr.; her second husband, Pete Dallagicoma; and her third husband, Bernard Spellman. Survivors include one son, Norman Elder Jr. and wife Janie of Rosedale; two daughters, Rose Mary Hopkins and Carolyn Harris and husband Ronald, all of Terre Haute; two sisters, Ruby White and Inez Rhea; grandsons, Jimmy Hopkins, Brad Elder, Richard Elder Jr., Edward Elder, Forrest Sprouse, James Watson and Duane Watson; granddaughters, Mary Ann Filcheck, Connie Large, Julie Marchesi, Dawn Foote and Artava Gross; great-grandchildren, David, Adam and Jason Large, Charmaine and Brian Marchesi, Jetaine and Justin Dowdy, Chris, Craig, April and Amber Elder, Ben Watson, Jimmy, Dan, Beth and Amy Schuler, Jamie, Tiffany and Melanie Hopkins, Carolyn and Theresa Sprouse, Briana Gross and Brandon Elder; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Richard Elder. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 291. Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brian Keller officiating. Burial is in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rockville.
