Joan was born about 1530. She was the daughter of Richard Sheaffe and Elizabeth Andrews.
In about 1553 she married Richard Knatchbull. They had at least 5 children:
Joan died in 1566 and was buried at Mersham, Kent on 2 Sep 1566.[1] A tablet in the church at Mersham, dedicated to her son Richard, records the following family information:
Here lieth the body of Richard Knatchbull, esq. of Mersham, who died the 20th of January 1590, being of the age of 36 yeeres; he was the eldest son of that Richard Knatchbull who lieth at the entrance of this chancel, who had two wives; the first was Joane Sheaf, by whome he had two sonnes, this Richard and John, and fowre daughters, Alice, Ann, Elizabeth, and Katherine. [2]
