John Edward was born in 1895. He was the son of James Edward Sheary and Mary Jane O'Dwyer. [1] He passed away in 1917 age 22 [2]
John Edward Sheary (Service number 4/2135) served in the NZ Army during World War 1. A telegraphist in civilian life, he gave his next of kin as J. Sheary (father), of Richmond, Nelson,. He embarked 1 April 1916 aboard HMNZT 49 or HMNZT 50 the vessels Tahiti or Maunganui to Suez, Egypt. He was a Sapper with the 11th Reinforcements New Zealand Field Engineers, Signal Company of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force . He was Killed in Action, 12 October 1917 at Ypres, Belgium . He is memorialized on the Tyne Cot Memorial, at Tyne Cot Cemetery, in Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium [3]
