Biography

Wade Gray Shipard was born on 6 Aug 1963 in Penong, South Australia, the son of Tolvor Dale (Snook) Shipard and Aileen Margaret Gray. ^[1]

He sadly died on 7 Feb 1975 as a result of a shark attack in Point Sinclair, Penong, South Australia. ^[1]

Australian Boy Killed by Shark

Sydney, Australia (UPI) -

A seven-foor white shark tore a leg off an 11-year-old boy and killed him before the eyes of his mother as the boy swam off a beach, police reported Sunday.

The shark attacked Wade Shipard Saturday as he was swimming to a fishing trawler to get fresh craysish.

His mother, Aileen Shipard, 34, watched horrified from the beach.

"He screamed to me, 'Shark, Mum!' but there was nothing we could do." she said.

The trawler captain, George Mastrosavas, jumped into the water and beat at the shark with a fishing gaff while another member of the crew threw an anchor at it.

Later the trawler's crew baited lines and hooked the shark. It was killed with a harpoon.

Police said the shark attacked in about six feet of water a short distance from the beach at Port Sinclair, a popular swimming area near the town of Penong, about 400 miles West of Adelaide.

Wade was buried in Penong Cemetery.
