Aunt Bessie was 1st married to ________ Downing. They had 2 sons--1 Ashley and the other John M. Think Downing then she married a Taylor. No children to this union. Aunt Bessie was as deaf as could be but could always tell if we were close by. Would make us come up on porch sit and visit. Her son Ashley lost an arm due to having it out window and a cotton trailor cut it off. She spent much time trying to figure out how Ashley come possibly get his pants on with one arm. At the time of the accident story goes Ashley stopped his car--got out--- picked up his arm and drove to nearest store/place where he passed out. I do not remember Ashley but I remember Aunt Bessie and John M was a main figure in my life. He was a most lovable-likable person. Worked for the Ag department cause during depression they were looking for someone with an "A" degree. He applied --got the job and do not know if ever revealed his "A" stood for degree in Architic! {Can't spell ---degree in as designing houses, etc.}[1]
John a Shoaf was my Great Grand Father---Aunt Bessie my great Aunt---John M my father's 1st cousin
