Biography

John was born in 1788. He was the son of Thomas Shubrick and Mary Branford. He passed away in 1815.

Shubrick became a midshipman on June 20, 1806, and a Lieutenant on May 20, 1812. He was a distinguished officer on the frigates "Constitution" and "President". He also served aboard the sloop Hornet during the War of 1812 and on the frigate Guerrier against Algiers before disappearing at sea along with his new command, the sloop Epervier in 1815. The Epevier was last seen after sailing through the Straits of Gibraltar. Shubrick's highest rank in the Navy was Lieutenant Commander. He married Elizabeth Matilda Ludlow from New York. It was written of Shubrick that he was one of the noblest spirits that ever served under the American flag.
