The newspaper announcement stated
MARRIAGES. At 2 Laurel Bank, Dundee, on the 4th inst., William Sime, manufacturer, Galashiels, to Ellen, youngest daughter the late James Boyd, merchant, Dundee. (no cards) [3]
The workers in his factory marked the occasion with a presentation.
Presentation.—On Tuesday evening, the workers in Botany Mill met in one the large rooms in the factory for the purpose of presenting a testimonial to Mr William Sime. The testimonial consisted of elegant silver cup, bearing the following inscription:—"Presented to Mr William Sime, by the workers in Botany Mill, on the occasion of his marriage, as a mark of their esteem and regard, and as a token their respect for him as an employer." Mr Walter Thomson, one of the foremen, made a short but suitable address in making the presentation, and Mr Sime gracefully acknowledged his appreciation of the kindness displayed in the gift—assuring the contributors that he would long remember this expression of their sentiments towards him. We understand that the marriage will take place on Thursday (to-day), and Saturday will be a holiday in the factory, when each worker will receive a day's wage and a free ticket of conveyance to Hawick Races. [4]
William died in 1885 aged ~44.
