Biography

Jessie (Simons) Rosewarn was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

Jessie Shilson Simons, daughter of John Bartlett Simons (bef.1827-1901) and Amelia Treliving (Oliver) Simons (1825-1906), was born on 28 April 1861 in Collingwood, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.[1] She was baptised at St Peter's, Eastern Hill, Melbourne on 8 April 1870, along with her siblings Phillippa Ann Simons, James Richard Philip Simons, and Elizabeth Amelia McKinley Simons.[2] Her parents had only just moved to Melbourne from Sydney prior to her birth, where they joined her aunt and uncle's family, Philip and Mary Ann Shilson.

Jessie Shilson Simons and Joseph Frederick Rosewarn were married in Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria, in 1883.[3] Children from this marriage were:

  • Frederick John Thomas Rosewarn (1884-1945)
  • Amelia Elizabeth Rosewarn (1887-1962)

Jessie's husband, Joseph died on 9 March 1890.[4] In memorium notices were placed by Jessie and her mother from 1902 to 1906,[5][6][7] [8][9] and by Jessie in 1906.[10][11][12]

From 1931 until her death in 1940, Jessie was living at 32 Garton St, North Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria.[13]

Jessie died in 1940 at age 79[14] and was buried at Fawkner Memorial Park, Fawkner, Victoria on 3 June 1940.[15]
