As a young man (16), Puran came across missionaries of Jehovah's Witnesses.[1][2][3] After studying, Puran was baptized and decided to be known as "George".[3] George then served as a full-time minister, the first Malaysian to become a "pioneer".[1][2][3] George then moved to India to serve as a missionary.[1][2][3]
George traveled from Bombay on the ship "Himalaya" arriving in England on 22 December 1949.[4] George traveled from Southampton on 26 Jan 1950 on the ship Veendam arriving in New York on 7 Feb 1950.[5][6]
