Biography

Susan S Singletary was born on October 16, 1874,^[1] in Copiah Co., Mississippi, to Annie Eliza Anderson, age 19, and Allen Singletary, age 24. At age 6, She was living in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, with her parent's in 1880.^[2]

She married Marion Francis Thornton on December 29, 1893 in Copiah Co., Mississippi. ^[3]They had six children.

3. James “Jim” Monroe Thornton
4. Sadie Irene (Thornton) Harris
5. Elam Hansel Thornton
6. Clifton Thornton

in 1910, they were in Copiah Co., Mississippi, where Marion was farming, and she was taking care of the home and raising their children, at 119 Piazza Langara Road. The Children in the household were, George Thornton-14, Alma Thornton-13, Jim Thornton-9, Sadie Thornton-4, and Hansel Thornton-3.^[4] By 1920, they were on a farm on Pine Bluff Road, Crystal Springs West, Copiah Co., Mississippi, with Susie S-45, Marion-52, and children, Alma-23, James M-19, Sadie-14, and Hansell Elam-12.^[5]In 1930, only Alma and Sadie were still in the home. Their farm was on Milsaps Road, Copiah Co., Mississippi^[6]

Susan died on October 5, 1934, at the age of 59, in Crystal Springs, Copiah Co., Mississippi, and was buried in the New Zion Cemetery.^[1]
