Biography

George Warren Thornton was born on April 25, 1895, ^[1]in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, to Susan Singletary, age 20, and Marion Thornton age 28. He was the first child of six children. He was living with his parents and siblings at age 14 at 119, Paizza Langara Road, Copiah Co., Mississippi in 1910.^[2]

He was drafted into the Army in World War I in Dawiggins, Sunflower, Mississippi when he was 22. He served as Private 1 class, inducted at Indianola, Sunflower Co., Mississippi, on September 21, 1917. He served in Co C 312 Engrs. to Nov 11/17; Co C 114 Engrs. to discharged.^[3] He was sent overseas on Aug 22, 1918, from Hoboken, New Jersey, on the Ship, Wilhelmina. He was in Company C 114th Engineers.^[4]

George Warren Thornton married Bammer Rosetta (Hallman) Thornton in Copiah, Mississippi, on July 15, 1918, when he was 23 years old. ^[5] They had eight children.

In 1935 through 1940, at age 46, they were living on Dentville Road Copiah, Co., Mississippi, where he was a farmer. G.W., Clifton, Minnie lee, Grady, Marty Lynn and Paul had all been born by that time.^[6]

He died October 12, 1965, at the age of 70,^[1] in Crystal Springs, Mississippi,^[7]and was buried in the New Zion Cemetery.^[1]
