“In 1818 came William McCleary who married Anna, daughter of Jacob Skelton. He constructed a log cabin around the Joshua Freudenberg property. McCleary was from South Carolina and after being here only a few years was elected a justice of the peace which he held for many years. McCleary established the first blacksmith shop in Barton township.”
