Biography

John was born in 1914 in Shoreditch. His mother's maiden name was Pridgmore.[1]

He was an officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in 1932,[2] taking up a short service commission in the Royal Air Force as a regular Flying Officer in 1937[3]

He married Gloria Howey in 1939 in Westminster[4]Link includes wedding photograph.[7]

He was promoted to Flt Lt. in 1940[5]

In 1941, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross[6]

In 1943, he was awarded a bar to his Distinguished Flying Cross (this means that he was considered to have won the medal twice.[7]

In 1946, he became a Squadron Leader[8]

He died in 1957 in Southwark (2 possible death records - not sure which is correct)
