Biography

George was likely born in Monroe County, Tennessee, as his father's family was in Monroe County, Tennessee in 1900, not yet relocated to Georgia. His younger sister Lillie Mae stated in interviews with Clinton Slayton that she was just a little girl when the family relocated to Georgia: she is aged about 6 in their first Georgia census, [1] and that her younger brother Wm Hampton was the first born in Georgia.

George might have married Dona Wadkins, [citation needed] This is unverifed and no wife is mentioned in death notice below.

George Slaton. 40, section foreman on the N. C. St. L railroad, was found dead near the double track about four miles south of Dalton Sunday morning. It seems from the evidence at the inquest that he was knocked off the track of the Southern railroad by south bound train. It is supposed that Mr. Slaton stepped off the N. C. St. L. track to avoid the coming train and failed to notice the train on the other track. Mr. Slaton was buried Monday at 3 o'clock at Hill City Georgia. Mr. Slaton's brother, John Slaton was the first Whitfield county boy to be killed in action in the World war. [2]

Burial place is confirmed.[3]
