James Sleep was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

James Thomas Sleep, son of Thomas David Sleep and Elizabeth Jane Nancarrow, was born in 1869 in Creswick, Victoria. ^[1]

In 1896 James married Honor Crothers. ^[2]

James (Farmer, of Rainbow) died on 6 May 1922, aged 52 years, in Rainbow, Victoria, Australia. ^{[3] [4]} His death was reported in the Numurkah Leader (Vic. : 1895 - 1948), Wed 24 May 1922, Page 2 ^[5]

SLEEP.—At his residence, "Bell Vista," Rainbow, on May 6, James T. Sleep, much loved brother of Fred G. Sleep, Numurkah.

He was buried at Rainbow Cemetery, Rainbow, Victoria. ^{[6] [7] [8]} His gravestone reads:
