Walter Sleet was born in Yorkshire, England.

Walter Henry Sleet was born in 1879 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. He was the firstborn child of George Sleet and Jean Young.

The 1881 UK Census listed the occupants (note the dyslexic spelling of the surname) of Manningham, Yorkshire as: [1]

Walter Sleet was an Assisted Immigrant to New South Wales.

He arrived in Sydney Harbour, Colony of New South Wales (Australia) on 3rd February 1884 aboard Abergeldie along with his parents and younger sister. [2] Another seven siblings would be born in their adopted home, four of whom would die in infancy.

Walter married Daisy Witcher in 1910 in New South Wales. [3] They had five children:

  1. Thomas G (1911-11)
  2. Daisy (1912-12)
  3. Walter W [4] (1912-)
  4. Ernest Alfred [4] (1914-78)
  5. Albert Henry [4] (1917-85)

He passed away on 10th December 1954 at home at 44 The Promenade, Sans Souci [5] and is buried in Woronora Cemetery, Sutherland. [6]

A death notice was published in The Sydney Morning Herald on 11th December:
SLEET, Walter Henry.—December 10, 1954, at 44 The Promenade, Sans Souci, beloved husband of the late Daisy Sarah Sleet, loved father of Walter, Ernest and Albert, dear father-in-law of Kitty, Beryl and Merle, and fond grandfather of Pamela, Richard, John, Janett, Roger, Yvonne and Vicki, aged 74 years. [4]
