He died, at the age of 61, on July 2, 1955 in La Juunta, Colorado.[6] He is buried at the Llano Cemetery, Amarillo, Randall County, Texas.[7]

Homer Smith Dies in La Junta

Homer Anderson Smith, 61, resident of Amarillo until three months ago died Saturday at 8:10 p.m. in La Juunta, Colo. He had been living at Ordway, Coll, since moving from here. Funeral arrangements are pening with Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home of Amarillo.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Alice Smith, Ordway, six sons, Earl, of Arlington, Colo., W.O, of Carlsbad, N.M., Williard and J.G. Smith, both of Houston, Vester L. Smith, Baytown, Tex., and Jud Smith, of El Paso. Also surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Alvis Phillips, Amarillo, Mrs. Juanita Boxford, Spearman, Mrs Darlene Chandler, Los Angeles, Mrs. C. E. Kittrell, Los Angeles and Mrs. Darrell Close, Ordwayzzz; four brothers, Emory, Edgar and Raymond Smith, all of McLean, Finis Smith, Gainesville; five sisters, Mrs. Minnie Burr, Spur, Mrs. Ruby McDay, Utah, Mrs. Sam Blake, Gainesville, Mrs Buck Atchley, Estelline, and Mrs Pausl Morenwizer, Dumas.

Funeral arrangements are pending with Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Homes.

Yes! They were an amazing couple and so sweet. We enjoyed many reunions in Abilene and they are now being hosted in Tomball, TX and just had our 65th annual Smith reunion this past summer.

Went to two of the Smith Family Reunions in Abilene Texas. Got to know many of the family members. Stayed in touch with John Kirkland and his wife Laura Pearl Smith until their deaths. Charles Atchley
