She married John Buce, and they were likely living in Clarke County, Georgia in 1815, when a "John Buse" first appears in Captain Funderburgh's District tax list. William "Poach" owned land and paid taxes in the district, and his son Sherrod married Rutha's daughter, Celia, in 1816.

By 1830 the Buces moved to Meriwether County, Georgia, where John purchased 150 acres from William Smith (potentially his future son-in-law) in 1834.

In 1837 John purchased 160 acres from the federal government in Tallapoosa County.

The Buces moved to their Tallapoosa land by 1840.

In 1850 the Buces were farming in Township of 22 of Tallapoosa County, Alabama.

John formalized his last will and testament on February 12th, 1853, in which he named Ruth his sole executrix, and the document was probated on April 9th, 1855, providing roughly a 26-month window for when his death occured.

Birthdate - On July 15th, 1843 Ruth stated that she was 68 years old, indicating a date of birth between 1774 and 1775. Ruth was enumerated as 70 years old in the 1850 Census, suggesting a year of birth between 1779 and 1780.
