Biography

The 1851 census places Henry Smith (b 1834-5) at 7 Knight Street with his parents John and Hannah, and his siblings John (b 1836-7), Thomas (b 1839-40), William (b 1841-2), Edward (b 1846-7), and Alice ( b 1848-9).

Henry married Elizabeth Ann Clayton 27/11/1856 in the Parish Church of Liverpool. He gave Trowbridge Street as his address and John Smith, Coachman as his father. Both ages were given as Full.

On 26/9/1857 Henry Smith, my Gt Gt Grandfather was at 21 Corbett Street, West Derby, Liverpool. I know this because this was where his oldest son was born.

Henry was a plumber, an occupation carried on by his sons.

The 1861 places Henry and his family at 12 Hamilton Terrace, West Derby.

The 1881 census places his widow and children at 24 Abbott Street so he must have died sometime before 1881. However on the previous neighbouring family entry there is a George Henry Smith, but no details given. This could be a mistake as George Henry the son could have just popped next door and the enumerator has mistakenly counted him in.

GRO marriage Ref. Dec Qtr 1856, Liverpool, 8b 89.

There is a Henry Smith born 1834 who died 1880 aged 46. He is buried in St James' Cemetry, Liverpool and his address was given as Tiler Street. Having searched fror this I think there might have been an error and it is possibly Tiber Street, in Granby Ward, Windsor. Henry's wife Elizabeth Ann Clayton was born in Windsor Liverpool.
