Tempy Smith is a part of US Black heritage.
Tempy was enslaved by James Webb Smith in Jackson County, Tennessee, along with her mother "Amy" and her four children: Gloster, Sydney, Lawson, and Webb.
James wrote his will on 20 February 1854 and died on 22 May 1856. He named 71 enslaved people, including Tempy who was given to James's son Sydney Smith along with three of her children: Sydney, Lawson, and Webb.
