Biography

Roxanna (Smith) Sutton is a part of US Black heritage.

Roxanna Smith was born in April 1856 in Pike Run, Washington, Pennsylvania, United States, daughter of Henry Smith and Nancy Norris.

In 1880, she was living in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio with her sister Hannah (Smith) Bell (1850-1931).

Roxanna married Edward Sutton on 21 December 1881 in Ross County, Ohio, United States.

Roxanna died 28 June 1943 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, and is buried at Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus.

Research Notes

By 1880, Roxanna was using the surname Fortune, and it is the name she is listed with in her marriage record to Edward Sutton and on her son's birth record. No marriage records to a Fortune have been found. However, Roxanna's death certificate confirms that she is the daughter of Henry Smith and Nancy Norris.
