Theodore Townsend Smith, son of B.P. Smith and E.R. Smith was born Sunday, 10:35pm, on Nov. 9th,1884 at 88 Beaufain Street, Charleston, SC.^[1]

I took my Master in Arts degree in 1908; in 1907-08, and 1908-09, I held a Whiting Fellowship in the division of physics, and in 1909-10 I was Tyndall Scholar. I have not taken my doctor's degree, though I still live in hopes. In 1907-08 and 1908-09 I was a Proctor in college house 17, and in 1909-10 in Perkins 60. "I have been an instructor in physics in the University of Kansas since 1910, and am an associate member of the American Physical Society."^[3]
