Thomas Smith was born March 12, 1837 in Sterlingville, Jefferson Co., New York, United States. He died Nov. 29, 1916 in Lowville, New York and was buried in Lowville Rural cemetery, Lowville, New York. He married Mary E. Burke, Jan. 1, 1865 in Harrisburg, New York. His parents were Patrick and Roseanna Riley Smith.
He was a stone mason for a living. Survivors listed in his obituary included six daughters and five sons, (no names were given) and a brother, Patrick Smith of
Lowville, New York, and a sister, Rosa Batton (?) of Schenectady, New York.
