Biography
Elizabeth was born about 1733.
Henry Pilley married his first wife, Elizabeth Smithers, by banns on 12 Sep 1756 in St Mary, Whitechapel, Tower Hamlets, England.

”Married in this Church by Banns this Twelfth [? smudged] Day of September in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Six by me Henry Mayo Curate.”
Henry signed his name and Elizabeth Smithers left a mark. The witnesses were Austin Sparpoint[?] and Keturah Smethers. They both signed their names.[1]
Elizabeth Pilly of Virginia Street died in 1778 at the age of 43 and was buried in Whitechapel, Middlesex, England on 20 Apr 1778.[2]
Research Notes
One of the witnesses to her marriage was Keturah Smithers, she may be a sister. Ketturah Smithers married Thomas Plant on 3 Mar 1753 in Stepney.[3] Searched for a birth for Keturah without success, which suggests the records might not be available for Elizabeth. With such a common name, more than just a christening record with the name Elizabeth Smithers is required to establish her identity.
