Biography

Rufus Snell Sr. was a Latter Day Saint pioneer.

Rufus P. Snell was born on 27 May 1840 in Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada, son of Cyrus Phillips Snell (1809–1873) and Rhoda Barnes (1815–1900).[1]

His siblings were:

Rufus married Ellen Celestia Hillman (born on 11 October 1850 in Mills County, Iowa, USA; daughter of Silas Hillman and Emily Ann (Cox) Hillman). Their children were:

On 27 Aug 1854, Rufus and his family immigrated to Deseret, United States as part of the Cyrus Snell Company, leaving Debuque, Iowa.[2] Rufus was the captain of the company. He and his wife wrote some diary entries that are saved at the site above.

Rufus died on 9 September 1917, aged 77. He was buried in Cowley Cemetery, Cowley, Big Horn County, Wyoming.[1]

Emerson Snell-1 and Snell-1669 appear to represent the same person because: Birth and Death dates as well as wife's name (mostly) match. These seem to be same person.

My interest is because my best friend is related to the Snell line and I am doing research for her to flesh out her family tree.
